Get involved !

Would you like to get actively involved in the anti-capitalist movement, but don't know where to start? In this section, we'll show you how the CLAC works to encourage new members to join the collective, because the more anti-capitalists there are, the more revolutionary we'll be!

The first step, if you're thinking of organizing with CLAC, is to read this page. If you think our modus operandi and the principles we stand for are right for you, you can email info (at) clac-montreal.net to let us know you're interested!

Once we've heard from you, one or two people from the collective will suggest a meeting, in which we'll discuss our campaigns and practices in more detail. The purpose of this meeting is to make sure that CLAC is what you want and that you share the values of the collective. We'll also ask you questions about any previous involvement you've had and why you'd like to join the collective.

After this first meeting, we'll invite you to take part in a CLAC projects committee, to give us a chance to work together and get to know each other. This initial involvement could also take the form of a campaign open to all (for example, through public assemblies organized to launch campaigns against summits).

After this initial involvement, if all goes well, the welcoming committee will consult the other members of the collective with a view to your more formal involvement. There may be specific reasons for refusal by the collective, such as knowledge of a history of sexual, racist or transphobic violence. There may also be less obvious reasons, for example if people in the collective felt that your involvement made theirs more difficult. Such cases are very rare, but we are keen to encourage the involvement of marginalized people in the collective, which could be made difficult by oppressive behavior on the part of other group members.

If no member of the collective objects to your involvement, you will be invited by one of the members of the welcoming committee to attend a meeting of the follow-up committee. Your involvement in this committee will give you a better idea of all the political work being carried out by the various members of the collective, and help you to get involved.

There you go! This process is a way for us to ease integration of new folks while allowing the collective autonomy to decide with whom they wish to organize while remain security culture.
